The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education was established under the FBISE ACT 1975 in Islamabad. It is an autonomous body that falls into the Ministry of “Federal Education and Professional Training”.
The institution is empowered with administrative and financial authority to organize, regulate, develop and control Intermediate and Secondary Education in general and conduct examinations in the institutions affiliated with it. The board has the offices in H-8/4 Islamabad and Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan.
Its jurisdiction encompasses Federal Capital, Federally Administered Northern Areas, Entire Pakistan and Overseas. It also has its own board of governors comprised of Senators, Members of National Assembly, Vice Chancellors, nominees of the ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and representatives of provincial governments, AJK, FATA and Northern Areas.
The FBISE supports and administers the education of Matriculation (5th,8th, 9th, 10th) and Intermediate (I.COM, ICS, FSc, FA etc.). The board offers a generous collection of subjects to choose from including Civics, Economics, Islamic History, Arabic, Clothing and Textile, Health and Physical Education are just to name a few apart from the conventional subjects like Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies and English.

The board also participates actively in the conduction of Award Ceremonies and Extra Curricular Activities. Every year an award ceremony is conducted in FBISE Office in Islamabad where prizes and medals are distributed amongst the valedictorians of the on-going year.
In the ceremony of 2019, the President Dr. Arif Alvi and the Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood were present to raise their spirits and acknowledge the competence, credibility, and sheer hard work of our youth. The board also hosts a lot of extracurricular activates like Naat and Qirat competitions, English/Urdu speeches, and Science Exhibitions to keep students indulged in friendly competition and self-building.
They also provide students the opportunity to showcase their talents and further polish them. Events like science exhibitions provide students with a beacon of self-satisfaction and gratification that a lot apart from books can be done at a rather early age.
Every year Training programs are hosted for Paper Setters and Educational Assessment. There, teachers and faculty members are trained to better perform their duties.
In Paper Setting Programs the teachers belonging to various subjects affiliated with federal board are called and workshops are conducted to ensure that the paper drafted this year is completely balanced and the level of difficulty is on par with an average student.
Paper Assessments workshops are there so that teachers that are to be involved in paper checking are made familiar to the rules and regulations so that the board can assure no harm is catered towards the student.
In the months of March to May the board is occupied in the conduction of exams at both SSC and HSSC levels. For this bare purpose the board hires staff to invigilate the educational institutions amalgamated with FBISE. A team of laymen are hired supervised by a Superintendent.
